Prior to her own company start in 1998, choreographer Joëlle Bouvier worked with Regis Obadia as Co-Artistic Director and choreographer of L'Esquisse, a major dance company on the French contemporary dance scene, which they founded in 1980. Together they choreographed fifteen works which they performed worldwide, co-directed four award-winning short films including a selection at the Cannes Film Festival in 1989 as well as several music videos, one of which having been awarded Best Video at the French Victoires de la Musique in 1990.
During 1986 to 2003, Joëlle was the co-director of the National Choreography Center in Le Havre (Normandy) and of the National Center of Contemporary Dance (CNDC) in Angers while also directing a short film at the same, which won both the Grand Prize at the Festival de Grenoble in France and the Research Prize at the Montecatini Festival in Italy.
In 1998,Joëlle began a new independent creative process by which she choreographed several works for dance students at CNDC, young audiences as well as major large ensemble works such as Joan of Arc and The Divine Comedy for French based Ballet de Lorraine, then Romeo & Juliet for the Geneva Ballet which performed it during Jacob's Pillow Festival opening week in June 2011.
In January 2004, she was invited to become Associated Artist at the National Stage (Scene Nationale) of Les Gemeaux in Sceaux, located in the Paris suburb, where she created Le Voyage d'Orphee (Orpheus Voyage) and Face to Face (May 06), a solo which the Theatre de la Ville in Paris co-produced and presented during the following Spring. Face to Face was also performed as a showcase at City Center Theater studio during the APAP 08 Conference in New York.
In addition to her choreography, Joëlle has also developed Events, in particular display windows for the renown French department store Le Printemps (March 02) and around the launching of a new Chinese cosmetic product line at a conference center (Palais des Congres) in Paris.
Ms. Bouvier received the Grand Prix in Dance from the French based SACD (Society of Drama and Choreography Authors) and was named an Officer des Arts et Lettres in year 2000.
